In each case these Sims look nearly identical, the only changes being things like skin, hair and eye colours. This is five generations from one family. TS2 had that with every child, but TS3 only really has that if you get lucky. Mostly how TS2 had one, and TS3 is basically just a grab bag of traits from different family members where you have to cross your fingers that the child would come out looking like… well… an actual child of your sims actual offspring who resemble their parents but maintain a unique look different from them and other siblings. I think it also comes down to the different genetics systems. It’s definitely available in The Sims 3, just to a… maybe not lesser, but a less authentic extent? In TS3 you can see family resemblances start to appear when a baby ages up to toddler, but it just isn’t quite the same, mostly I think because it’s hard to have different looking Sims to begin with, and most Sims younger than young adult all tend to look really similar. I loved the genetic system in TS2, it was so great when a baby became a toddler and you could see the beginnings of their facial traits.
